can I claim Housing benefit

Post by alf32 » Fri Jan 16, 2015 3:31 pm

My husband is here on a spouse visa with no recourse to public funds. His visa will expire in 2016 and of course will then re apply for a new spouse visa.
I myself am a British citizen, I am currently unemployed and looking for a job. I am not claiming job seekers allowance and my husband works, but we are unable to pay rent and bills on his wage, until i find suitable work i would like to apply for housing benefit and help with council tax.
I would like to know if this will affect my husbands visa. It will be me claiming NOT him, but his details have to be included in the application for housing benefit. I would not want to jeopardize our future immigration matters.
So questions are
1: Am I allowed to claim housing benefit?
2: Can this affect my husbands visa now or in the future?

Many thanks in advance
