I came to England, from Pakistan in 1991. With both my parents, who are now british citizens. I had right of abode until my pakistani passport ran out in 1993. (i know! a long time ago) But i did not know i had to renew once my passport expired and i never really thought about applying for a new passport as i never travel anywhere. I have never left england since i arrived. I run my own car repair garage and own my home. I pay taxes and I have children who where born in this country also.
With that all being said, I applied for Naturalisation on Monday after i took and passed my life in the U.K test.

Was i right to do so?

On what basis do you have a right to abode?
In any case, what are your concerns? that you're already a citizen?

I have the right of abode stamp in my passport. My father is and was a british citizen when we came to the U.K.

I am not implying that i could be a british citizen because obviously if i thought i was i would not have applied for naturalisation.

The issue i have is i applied for naturalisation while my pakistani passport has expired with the ROA stamp and now im worried

When and where were you born?
Was your father or mother British otherwise than by descent when you were born?

I was born i pakistan in 1975. My father came to the U.K in 1937(roughly)and became a british citizen. And now my mother is also a british citizen.

If your father became British before your birth and he's married to your mother, then it's likely that you are already automatically British by descent.

Thank you for your reply. I wish I had known this before I applied for naturalisation or would I still of had to do that anyway? And is there any way I could find out weather I am British by decent or not?

They may refuse your naturalisation application and inform you that you're already British. See also Am I a British Citizen?

When providing your parents details in the AN form, did you put their nationality as British?
If the HO concludes that you are already British, they will inform you and refund the fee you paid.

Also, will it matter that my Pakistan passport was expired with ROA certificate inside?

No. Your rights don't expire. It is just a travel document that expired.

Hi,

An update. As stated before in my first post, i applied for naturalisation. To then learn that i did not/may not require it as my dad was a British citizen and married to my mother before i was born.

I received a letter of acknowledgement today from U.K.B.A and the cheque will clear tomorrow.

I honestly believed they would realise i did not require the naturalisation...

It still doesn't mean they will not conclude you are already British. All it means it that your application has been processed into the system (letter issued, money deducted) but not that a case worker has actually looked into your case. That will happen in the next few weeks.
