CAN I LIVE 6 MONTHS IN FRANCE AND 6 MONTHS IN THE UK ???????

thanks republique and casa , now i undestand . my wife was exsercing her treaty right for 5 years been working for 5 years and have her permanent resident ,except that she hasnt got it on her passport ...when i applied i sent her ID instead of her passport .....but one thing that is bothering me is that ... as an exsample ...if i'm in france and i want to go to uk ...i have the UK PR in my passport and French PR is a card ok ...when i travel from france to uk i have to pass the police passport control i france so then i have to show what ? my passport with the UK PR ? then the police control will ask me how i ve been staying in france ...he would expect a shengen visa no ? so then i have to show him the resident card ? there it will be a probleme i think !!! what do u suggest ? thanks for your help
