Can my managers be the professional referees?

Hi,

Please can anyone let me know if my managers can be the professional referees? One senior manager's title is Head of South, Sales, and another one is my line manager whose title is Area Manager. The company is a PLC.

A work colleague can be provided they know you for three years.

I've used my manager (software engineer manager) as referee for my application
