Post by abhipkulk » Mon Jan 29, 2007 3:46 pm

Hi Guys,

I am working in uk since 8 months whihc involves use of english language  you cant speak with hindi with locals here, can this allow me to skip IELTS as I find its next to impossible to get any kind of certificate from my university. Can I take some certificate from client that this guy can speak english instead  . I mean is there any alternative to waste 95£ for IELTS .

Am afraid you may need to waste your £95 for an IELTS certificate. It is ironic that you may have to take the test even if you have been working in an English-speaking environment for years! But those are the rules and we have no choice but to adhere to these rules. I am in the same case as you, who have had experiences working in different countries where English is the means of communication and sadly I also need to obtain IELTS.

I would agree with Jbinuk:

The HSMP guidelines clearly state in Annex E that the only acceptable proof of english competence is either the IELTS test or your bachelors degree certificate and a letter stating it was taught in english.

Looking at how strict the caseworkers are being on enforcing the letter of the law, I seriously doubt if a letter would be considered.
