switch to a tier 1 general visa. We know in the past, she has to apply in our country, rather than in UK. But it seems, according to the new policy published in Mar, 2010, any dependent partner of a student (see below) can switch within UK. I don't know if it is correct.
By the way, I got my student visa in 2007. At the time it was not called Tier 4 student. Are these two things exactly the same ? So, in this circumstance, is my wife able to apply for the tier 1 within UK?

* Student Writing Up a Thesis;
* Work Permit Holder
* Businessperson
* Self-Employed Lawyer
* Writer, Composer or Artist
* any other Tier 1 category
* any Tier 2 category
* any Tier 4 category
* dependent partner of a Tier 4 migrant
