Can surname for parents in oci application differ from the applicant's previous indian passport

Post by Yogaraj » Sun May 18, 2025 10:36 am

Hi moderators / admins,

Firstly, thank you all for maintaining this very helpful site. I am sure many like me would have benefitted out of it. Keep doing the great work. 👍

I have a query relating to my OCI application under self root category. I have recently obtained the British citizenship and surrendered my indian passport. I am now in process to apply for OCI.

In my last held indian passport, my parents name field has got only their forename without any surname included which is unlike their other IDs Aadhar, Pan etc.,

Now my question is, can I fill their name with surname in my OCI application or do i need to match the exact name as per my previous Indian passport. Please note their first name remains the same as my previous indian passport and I am only trying to include their surname as well in my oci application. Will it cause any problem or require any affidavit/notarisation? If so, any insights on the process to obtain one will greatly help as well.

Kindly provide your views on it. Thank you!
