Can you lose a job offer due to a few day delay in passport?

Post by mtenay » Wed Jul 09, 2014 7:56 am

I recently got selected into a university in Netherlands. It was a Phd program so I am a student but I am considered as an employee of the university with salary and other benefits. It was a highly competitive program and it was very difficult to get selected. A few days after receiving the offer they asked me for my passport to begin the visa process. I gave them the actual date that I was supposed to receive my new passport (that was four working days after the email). So at the delivery date the passport office tell me that my passport has not been received yet by my city's branch. I also got an email from the university asking me to send them my passport on the exact date I told them that I would get the passport. Currently I have told them that I would get it after two days. They usually deliver it after two or three days of the delivery date. So can I lose my job offer if the passport office delays my passport more than two days? In the absolute worst case scenario they could take 5 days but this is highly unlikely. What should I do if the passport office does not give me my passport even after two days ? How should I explain it to the university ?

Ring them and say you'll send it as soon as it arrives which will be within the next week, I can't see an issue.
