Canadian Ancestry allowances?

Post by JoJo » Wed Sep 08, 2004 11:20 pm

I know that some countries allow immigration for people who are descended from there.

Can anyone tell me if Canada has any such allowances?

I recently found out that my paternal ancestry is Canadian.

Thanks!

No, you can't, unless your father himself is a Canadian citizen.

Have a look at the immigration website for more details: www.cic.gc.ca/english

Thanks for the info, Rhodes!

I suspected as much, but it was worth asking.

my 'rich' heritage

Yes, I apparently do have a rich heritage.

After spending the first 33 years of my life with absolutely no knowledge of my Father's family, I recently discovered that we are directly descended from Belgian immigrants that came to the USA via Canada (Arcadia).

I'm not sure how many generations back different countries allow for heritage to factor into their immigration policy, but I've heard that some are very lenient--so long as the bloodline is patriarchal.
