Provide Biometrics but keep passport for another travel

I applied to Canada visit visa and supposed to provide my biometrics and passport to their visa application centre in London. I need my passport as I am travelling to the EU next week.


Do you know whether I can provide only my biometrics and keep my passport with me until the return from the EU?

If so, do you think that will delay, speedup or has no effect on the visa processing time?
