Hello.
My wife (Canadian Citizen) an I (British) have recently had a baby boy in the UK. We are just finalizing the PR application process to return to Canada. We alerted them at the time of application we were due a baby but have not yet told them the baby has now been born (which i'm planning to do)
Our plan was to get his Canadian passport, so therefore wouldn't have to apply for him as a dependant on our existing PR application (which would really slow things down...)
I've just seen that to get a Citizenship Certificate for him (which the passport application indicates we would need) can take 12 months, is there a way to apply for the Canadian passport without it... like a Full UK birth certificate (with Mother's and Father's name) and proof of Mother's citizenship.
(...Section 3(1)(b) of the Current Act provides that a person born outside Canada after February 14, 1977 is a Canadian citizen if, at the time of birth, one of the parents (other than an adopting parent) was also a Canadian citizen...)
As my wife's visa is running out i wouldnt want to risk splitting the family up.
Would the immigration officials allow him into Canada on a British passport (6month visit) if I have PR....
Many Thanks,
Joe.
