carer 116 visa advice please

Post by headlineplus » Sun Aug 30, 2009 9:42 am

I have been reading a lot on the carer 116 visa and would like peoples help on this, as we will be speaking to Australia House tonight for more information to see if we may get through on this.

The situation for people who are not aware is the following.

My wife is 53 with no skills to speak of although she has worked all her life with her last two jobs being as a housekeeper in charge of a number of staff in a hotel and more recent working at tesco as a general assistant. Her mum is a permanent resident in Australia.

Mothers Details - she has lived in Australia for ten years and lives with her new husband of ten years. She is 53 years of age and is my wifes mother.

Her health is poor, she has a heart condition where she takes a tablet each day, and also has high blood pressure.

Her husband had cancer of the mouth and only has half a tongue and has been told that the cancer could come back. He is 63 years of age and still works. - He has two children living in Australia with one son living over one hundred miles away and a daughter who lives 30 miles away although my mother does not get on with her and she never visits them.

I am 39 and have no formal skills to speak of although I do work as a public relations consultant but not qualified as i am self taught - i work for myself. We have a daughter who is 16 years of age.

We would be taking with us around £20,000 to australia and would live with my mother for at least two years to look after her and maybe for good to look after her or rent the house next door.

My wife would be looking to work at least three days a week over there and we would take it in turn to look after her mum who is 73 years of age.

My mother is worried that if anything happened to her husband then she would be left on her own with no one to look after her and this worries her.

We have relatives still in this country, a sister and two brothers which we do not see that much and they will not go to australia to look after their mum as they have committments.

I would like advice if you feel the carer 116 visa would be worth looking at and any information that we can use to help us with our application. As mentioned we will be speaking to australia house to see what they say and we are also looking to hear about a migration agent that people could recommend in our situation as this is not an easy case.

Also could anyone let me know if there are temporary visas that we could use and keep using until we could get residence in australia

I know we are asking a lot of questions but this is so important to my mum that she has someone over there to look after her.

I would like to thank you for your help
