Certified copy of passport please help

Post by ela27 » Sat Nov 01, 2008 11:12 am

I have a question regarding including a certified copy of my passport in my husbands settlement visa application. My passport is still in my maiden name for 2 reasons - it contains ALL the entry stamps to Kenya from the last 2 years (proof of travel to Kenya) and also it is costly to change so I would like to wait until we have submitted the visa. I spoke to a man at the UK passport office and he said there is no time restriction as to when you must change to your married name on your passport (if at all) but as I have decided to change it for work, bank, etc. does this matter? I do not intend to travel on it again until my husband is here, providing all goes well.

Will it matter to the people processing the visa that this is still in my maiden name 4 months after getting married? And other things are not, or will it just be obvious and of no concern to them? I don't want to cause them to regect his visa for such a small reason, and still have 4 weeks until we apply so could get a new passport issued if necessary.

Sorry if this seems like a stupid question

Many thanks

It shouldn't matter. There is no legal requirement for a married woman to take her husband's surname (and neither has there ever been): it is a convention, nothing more. Obviously, though, you must include proof of marriage as relevant.

Of course, yep we will be including our marriage certificate as well.
Thanks
