Change in surname due to marriage

Post by rajesh9pl » Tue Jun 28, 2011 2:45 pm

Hi Guys,

I am in UK on Tier1 (G) visa. My Indian passport will expire in 08/2012, more than a year from now. I am planning to apply for passport renewal in Aug/Sept 2011.

My query is related to my spouse (dependent)'s passport. She has her maiden surname on her passport. I was thinking to get her surname changed to mine.

1. Is there any benefit in getting her surname changed at any later stage (ILR / Naturalisation)? I mean not doing now and do it when we go for naturalisation?
2. I assume they (HCI) give you a new passport with changed surname and applicant need to carry old passport to support her UK immigration status. Am I right?
3. Do you recommend to get current FLR sticker stamped on new passport, by applying to UKBA? Or carrying old passport should be fine
4. What’s your experience in getting change in surname reflected on other records e.g. bank account, employer, mobile connection

Your feedback and experience would be highly appreciated.

Many thanks,
Rajesh
