Changing visa status from Settlement Spouse to UK Ancestry?

Post by nicnz » Thu Feb 10, 2011 9:46 pm

I am currently on a Settlement Spousal visa which expires soon. I can renew it indefinitely for 1250 pounds, but I am only staying in the UK for another year.

Do you know if I can leave the country and come back in on a UK Ancestry Visa (which I am eligible for). If so, are there any countries where I can you get a visa on the spot.

AFAIK and it seems you do to, you cannot switch to ancestry in country.

You can leave and reapply but only in a country where you have permission to stay for more than 6 months, ie most likely NZ and Australia.

Considering the cost of such a trip, lenght of time away and time off work etc, and that you are better off under ILR anyway, you will probably find that is your best option.

Thanks for the quick reply. It seems like such a rip off, but cheaper than going to NZ or Aus.
