Child born abroad - passport application

Post by sfacaru » Tue Jul 07, 2020 4:58 am

I need some advice on acquiring British Passport for my soon to be born baby.

The status is as follows:

- I, male parent, a naturalised British Citizen as of 5th December 2017
- Female parent - foreigner, not a British Citizen
- Baby soon to be born outside the UK

Based on the advice available on https://www.gov.uk/apply-citizenship-br ... -july-2006, I understand that:

- I can pass my citizenship to the new born based on me (father) being a British citizen
- I can apply for the newborn child for a child passport (under16) without the need to have a citizenship certificate

Do you think this is the right route, or I need to first register the newborn as a British citizen?

Thanks!

Suggest start here: https://www.gov.uk/overseas-passports
Child will be British by descent (as born abroad), no requirement to register as British, so can apply for passport directly. The link enables online application and provides information on what documents are required.
This is just my opinion as a member of this forum and does not constitute immigration advice.
