Child born in UK - dependent visa

Post by hritukumar » Tue May 06, 2025 1:45 pm

I am on skilled worker visa currently and my ILR is due in August. My son was born in the UK in 2023 and we had to travel out of UK and therefore got skilled worker dependent visa. The visa expired in March. I read on the gov website that a child born in UK does not need a visa if he is not traveling outside UK. And therefore I have not renewed his visa as I plan to apply for his citizenship directly once I have my ILR in a couple of months.
Highly grateful if you could please guide me if this would have an impact on his citizenship application.
Many thanks in advance!

Yes, UK-born children can register for British citizenship if they meet specific criteria outlined in the British Nationality Act 1981. This typically involves being born in the UK, not automatically a British citizen at birth, and one parent becoming a British citizen or settled in the UK after the child's birth, while the child is under 18.

UK-born children do not always need a specific immigration status to register for British citizenship.
No sin in failing, you just have to try and try again!
