UK/Chinese baby passport conundrum

Post by mrsz » Sun Jan 04, 2015 8:46 pm

Hi,

I wonder if anyone can help please? I am a UK citizen, my husband is from China and has the spouse visa, though not settled yet. We have a 6 month old baby and now wondering what is the best way to go about getting a passport to go to China for a visit. We would like to get the Chinese passport so she can go on my husband's hukou and inherit, but I am nervous about having to renounce UK nationality.

To get a Chinese passport we have to get a document showing she has renounced UK nationality - but can you do that for someone under 18 years old?

And is it easy to get the UK nationality and passport back?

Would it be easier for her to get the Chinese passport first, and use a UK visa (which one?) and get the UK passport later? Will the Chinese government know if she gets a UK passport?

I'm quite confused so any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Z.

Many thanks for your reply Vinny. After rereading a few times I think we will obtain the Chinese passport first and get a Certificate of Entitlement to Right of Abode.

Cheers,

Z
