UK citizen with Kosova wife (With settlement visa)

Post by giovani4094 » Sun May 11, 2008 6:58 pm

I am finding it very frustrating with everyone I speak to, I have been given all sorts of advice, but none so far has resolved my situation.

I was in kosovo for two years and met and married my wife, she currently holds a UNMIK travel document (Not passport) and it has a 2 year settlement visa for UK in it. We currently live there now.

Trouble is we want to visit the rest of europe and I am being told I need various documents before she can travel with me, I want to take her to gran canaria on holiday, can anyone tell me what I need?

My deepest thanks to anyone that can advise me correctly!

She would need to apply for a Schengen visa.

Thanks Vinny for a quick response, this was one piece of advice I was given, but when I went to a passport/visa applying office. They said that I did not need one. I asked what I needed and they said, just a working permit or the travel document and of course me travelling with her was enough, being a UK citizen, if travelling alone she had to have schengen.

According to Europa - justice and affairs this is what it says, but again I didnt want to turn up at the airport to be turned away. (ec.europa.eu/justice_home/fsj/freetravel/thirdcountry/).

It also mentions if a family member of EU state is a non EU member they may require an entry visa, depending on their nationality and the country being accessed, the visa should be free of charge and without undue formalities if they travel with the EU family member.

I guess this is what you refer too? I thought I would answer your mail, incase others see this subject. Am I on the right lines Vinny?

Technically true but do you want a holiday or a battle? The rule is true but the battle is convincing the consulates, IO's, Airport check-in, Airport security, all along the way...

Remeber the plane people won't let her on the plane if they're not sure - they get fined for letting folks without a visa through and they won't want to takethe risk.

Hi. I am new here and saw this post and it's very interesting and useful to me. Basically, to summarise, I am a UK citizen with British passport (born in UK) but live now in Kosovo with my wife. My wife was born in Kosovo, is a Kosovo citizen with Kosovo passport. We are planning to visit my family in the UK soon and I was just looking for some advice on what kind of visa, if any, she will need in order to enter the UK for 2 weeks holiday with myself for the aforementioned reasons. I phoned the British Embassy to enquire about this but they just directed me to a website and said they no longer deal with such enquires/applications. Thus far, I have been unable to find the information I require and was just wondering if anyone here might be able to help me?
Any information would be much appreciated. Many thanks in advance and kind regards to you all.

This thread is 9 years old and there have been considerable changes to the Immigration Rules since 2008 :!:
