Citizenship and Life in the UK test

I got my ILR in July of 2010. I was required to pass and submit my certificate for the Life in the UK test at the time which I did. I don't seem to have my pass certificate and I'm not sure it was ever returned with my ILR, as that's something I certainly would not have tossed out in the bin if it did return.

I'm looking to get my citizenship now, and obviously, the application asks for the certificate or test number. I do not have either of these as, as I've said, I don't believe my original certificate was returned to me with my ILR. Will I be required to take the test AGAIN even though immigration has already seen that I've passed this test?

No you won't, but you will need to pass the B1 English language test.
From 28 October 2013, unless they are exempt, all applicants for settlement or naturalisation as a British citizen will need to meet the knowledge of language and life requirement by:

passing the life in the UK test; and
having a speaking and listening qualification in English at B1 CEFR or higher, or its equivalent.

Thanks for that. I'm actually currently a citizen of the United States which exempts me from having to take a speaking and listening qualification test as per booklet AN (page 15). So, I suppose its just a matter of ringing up the immigration people and asking them for my test reference number as they should have that on file?

That's good. The Life in the UK test results will be kept on the UKBA file.

This is something I was curious about as I had a panic when I couldn't find my certificate. The literature states it must be sent in with the application, but also states that if you've passed it for settlement, you don't need to take it again.

However, after some digging, see page 19 http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/sitec ... iew=Binary If the certificate is lost, UKBA can look it up on their system. I would suggest that this is noted in your application - that it wasn't returned to you but it was required as part of ILR application.
