Citizenship application MN1 under Section.3(1) as a minor

Post by funkyreal » Wed Jul 09, 2025 11:13 pm

I am planning on applying for British citizenship under s.3(1) as a 17 year old, I will be 18 in 2 months and I am currently doing a summer job to pay for my application. Both my parents consent to the application however my mother was put in doubt after a free solicitor session who I think did not do a good job with my case (I do not blame them, they probably have truckloads of cases that are more dire than mine), my circumstances are:

- My parents and I have had EU settled status for a year now, we are all EU citizens, my parents are able to give consent to this application and are willing to give me their records,

- I have lived in the UK from 2008 till 2018 along with my parents with no significant away time (I lived about 9 and a half years, just shy of 10 years),

- I have been not living in the UK for about 7 years now, I have been frequently visiting now for the past 2 years (about 4 trips, about 4 months total time spent) and I am currently enrolled in EU high school where I am expected to graduate in 2027,

- I am certain of my plan to move to the UK after graduation although I don't know how to communicate this, I have considered moving now but I would be behind on my education because I do not even have a GCSE equivalent as of current, however once I graduate I'll be able to get a certificate for A-level equivalency,

- I attended school in Northern Ireland, speak native English and know British culture,

- My brother was born in NI and she has 3 citizenships (EU, Ireland, UK),

- I have an uncle and several friends that would allow me to sleep there medium-term,

- I have several UK Bank accounts, Child ISA (recently converted from CTF), NI number, I am registered with a GP, a library card and a UK provisional driving license with a passed theory exam (although I don't know whether to include that as I've become aware that I probably shouldn't have gotten that, that is probably a mistake),

- I own and run a limited company that I use for various ventures (recently I've been working on a Tax filing tool), this company has been operating for a year, I run it via a virtual office, it has made no revenue however I has fulfilled all legal obligations to best of my ability,

- I am considering getting a career in MI5 this is not a concrete plan but something that I am considering as a potential career.

I am certain of my future in the UK and all AI's (although I've taken it with a grain of salt) have said I have a strong case, I've read the caseworker guidance and it seems I would meet the criteria under exceptional circumstances, although I am not sure how this would play out in the real world.

My main personal reasons for this application is because I have a personal attachment to the UK, I want to continue my life in the UK, I am scared of getting drafted into war (country not in a good position) and I do not feel at home in my EU country.

I would appreciate if anyone has any feedback, this is a very personal challenge I am facing.

When are you hoping to submit your application? Why don't your parents submit your application here in the UK?
You only have two months left as a "minor" before becoming an adult and then you have to comply with all adult requirements.
I wouldn't trust AI to advise on nationality applications.
This is just my opinion as a member of this forum and does not constitute immigration advice.
Please do not send me private messages asking for advice.

Good evening to you and I hope your doing well,
I am hoping to submit my application 2 weeks before my 18th birthday as I will have the required amount of money by then, me and my parents are currently abroad, I have the option of coming down to the UK to make this application if it would help me, since I saw on the website that there are two options of submission (from the UK and overseas).
As for AI I don't really have a choice I've tried to look for circumstances similar to mine but I couldn't find them, I saw that applications that were on worse merit (in my unprofessional opinion) were accepted, but then I don't have the key details to make a decision.
I wanted this to have been done a year ago, but unfortunately my parents didn't see me as "mature" enough for my decisions to carry merit, there are a billion other ways this could've been done but I guess I should focus primarily on whats now and on the future.

Where were you born? Uk or elsewhere?
