Hi Everyone,
I'm hoping someone can assist me with either clarifying, or pointing me in the direction of getting clarity regarding my status as a British National as the Home Office hasn't been able to provide me with a definitive answer either.
I am South African born in January 1982, to a father born in 1936 in South Africa, and a mother born in 1946 (also in South Africa).
My grandfather (paternal) was born in 1912 (South Africa was then called the Union of South Africa and considered an Dominion of the Crown). My paternal grandmother was born in 1915.
My maternal grandfather was born in 1920 and grandmother in 1922.
My uncle (paternal), born in 1934, moved to the UK as a citizen and has been there since the 50's. (not specifically relevant).
Now I'm aware that I'm going to need all birth certificates, marriage certificates, etc. Current times on getting these from South Africa is approximately 9 months (WOW).
If anyone can please shed some light on my situation would be great as my partner (an Irish national from NI) and I would like to move back there from Australia in the next two years, to settle and be closer to family, but need clarity if this is going to be easier or more difficult.
We don't want to apply as unmarried partner of an EEA national if it is not necessary.
