civil partnership registration question

Post by frost » Mon Dec 09, 2013 2:37 pm

Hello,

I've been confused in regards to civil partnership registration procedure. My partner is EU citizen and i'm from Peru on a student visa here, we're currently not living together but are planning to move in together shortly, but wanted to register civil partnership before we do. The general rule for UK citizens is that you have to live in the same borough for at least 7 days before you give notice of intent to register your civil partnership in a local register office, but I'm confused whenever you both have to live in the same borough to give notice when one of you is subject to immigration control? Does anyone know? Thank you!

Yes, but for live in you can assume be present in rather than have a residence visa that permits residence.

sorry, i think i didn't explain myself properly! My partner is a EU national living and working in London, i also live in London as i'm studying here and have a student visa. We want to register civil partnership but we don't live together yet, and we live in two different London boroughs. Can we still register civil partnership? We are a gay couple so marriage is not available for us yet. Thank you!

There is no requirement to live in the same borough to be able to register a marriage or civil partnership. Your first port of call should be local register office.
