Confused about Naturalisation times

Hi Everyone,

Can someone confirm that I have this right please?

My wife received her FLR(M) on the 7th July 2005 so will be applying for her ILR at the end of June 2007. She's been in the UK for 6 years as a full time student and then on a work permit for 1 year before marrying me, so has been here continuously since October 1998 i.e. 8.5 years next June.

Does this mean she can apply for naturalisation as soon as she receives her ILR next year?

Justin yes that is correct, she can apply for naturalisation as soon as she has here ILR next year ..... assuming of course she has a pass certificate from the Citizenship Test!

Given that she is married to a British Citizen she needs to pass the "applicant was physically in the UK exactly three years before IND receive the naturalisation application" test. So do take care if there were any holidays outside the UK in June or July 2004 ... and delay the application as necessary.

Since June 2004 until now, the only times she's been out country is a 5 day holiday in August 2004 and an 11 day one in March 2005.

I only just read about the fact that spouses need no time limit on their ILR, so you've confirmed some excellent news!

So all she has to do now is to study for and pass the Citizenship Test. This book (click) is recommended to aid study. She can take the test whenever she is ready ... no need to wait until next year, or the middle of next year.

That 5 day holiday in August 2004 stops an application being submitted in the relevant 5 day period in August 2007. But hopefully before then the application will already have been submitted.
