Confusion about dependant visa Rules

Hi Guys, I am applying for the spouse visa for my wife. I am currently on student visa. I have discussed with couple of solicitors and one is saying you can invite you wife and other is saying you can't. The confusion is regarding whether pre or 5th July rules will apply in my case. Here is the details of my visa in details.
>29.06.2012 - I applied for my visa & Fees paid for the visa
>22.09.2012 - Visa granted valid from 22.09.2012 to 31.12.2013
>10.10.2012 - flight to UK
I am studying in colleage and have college CAS
Now i do want to bring my wife here. Can someone please guide me if i can bring my wife here?

the only thing i would say she'd could apply for 6 month visitor visa? im not to sure on this one though, im led to believe you can only apply for a spousal visa if you are settled in the uk ( which you wont be as your a student until jan 2013)

Sorry for the confusion, I mean can she come to stay in the UK as my dependant?

Are you studying at a private college or an HEI? What level is your course
