Confusion about unpaid tax (self employment + employment income combined for spouse visa extension)

Post by mochi544 » Sun Nov 16, 2025 4:11 pm

Hello,

Hello,

My partners spouse visa is due to be renewed in July 2026. We will be combining my salaried employment with my self employment earnings to meet the financial requirement.

We will be using the tax year 2025-2026 as that is the most recent tax year in relation the July renewal date.

However, this means I will have to file the self assessment early. This is fine, I will file it and get the sa302 and all other required documents but what about making the actual tax payment?

The usual deadline for tax payments of any given year is January of the following year so in this case, January 2027.

Do I have to have paid all taxes due by the July 2026 application date? Or is it okay to submit the completed tax return with the sa302 and pay the taxes by January 27? I’ve seen quite a few conflicting things. Technically it’s not a debt because the due date is not until January ‘27.

The wording from the HO does state to show evidence of tax paid and unpaid…so surely it would be okay to submit the sa302 confirming all my earnings that meet the financial requirement but not have to actually pay the said taxes until January 2027?

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.
