Contacting Home Office after application

I had applied for naturalization 2 months back, a month later Home Office had advised me to request PSNI(Police Service Northern Ireland) to check their records and send them the results regarding me. I had done the required and PSNI had sent the relevant documents a month back. I had not heard from the Home Office yet. Can I contact Home Office. Would contacting Home Office delay my application.
