UK Contract job earnings count for HSMP ?

Post by viki83 » Thu Oct 04, 2007 11:28 am

Hi,

I am currently on a student visa till december 31st 2007. I've got a job offer as a Software Developer but its a 6 months contract starting from 15th october 2007 with Progressive UK.

I have some questions:

0. Can I start IT contract job (payed hourly) on my student visa (finished studies but remaining 3 months on student visa)

1. Can I later on claim for HSMP based on the earning from my contract job.

2. Can I claim for earnings for commulating more than 1 contract job. Like initially I have 6 months contract with one company then another 6 months with other companny, so my 12 months earning power I can add both pays and claim?

3. Typical IT contract jobs for agencies like Progressive UK, can I claim HSMP based on these jobs (or is it required for HSMP to have a permanenet job).

Regards,
Waqar

You can claim all contract earnings for your initial HSMP application, provided you can document them properly and they all fall in the earnings period claimed. Presumably you will switch to IGS (or work permit) when you start working ? AG

Check out this http://www.welfare.qmul.ac.uk/internati ... n/IGS.html

Its clearly written here that you can work your field related fix term contract till student visa ends. Actually the main issue is that I cant apply for SEGS before 15th nov. as I cant get university letter before that. Other thing is that I want to save my SEGS time as I still have student visa remaining till 31st dec. 2007.

According to my limited knowledge about HSMP, if you are full time student then you can only claim earnings before becoming full time student.

On student visa you can only do part time salaried employment in the U.K, you can not be self employed. I think contract work is not much different from getting self employed.

Your earnings can only be considered in the U.K if your visa allows you to get into employment in the U.K.
