Contracting OverSea for 15months within 5 years prior to ILR

Post by saayinla » Thu Sep 09, 2010 8:09 am

Hope the Question makes sense, I am currently on HSMP>Tier 1 route and I will be qualified for ILR by december 2012. I have the option right now to take up a contract job in Dubai next month for 15 Months but am not entire sure how this will affect my ILR of if I will be eligible for ILR again afterwards bearign in Mind that I can come back to he UK every 4 months with the 15 months and I can also afford to come back 12 months prior to the ILR date.

Please advice.

What is your contracting arrangement? (Ltd? Umbrella?)
Where are you going to be paid? (UK? Dubai?)

I currently operate within a limited company settings but if using an umbrella company is what needs to be done. It's all okay by me.... please advice.

Not entire finalized the payment pattern yet but which is better so that I can push for which ever will be in my favour...

Basically you should be fine if:

1. you are employed by UK-based company (that's why I mentioned umbrella company)
2. you are paid in UK

How about taxation

Post by nirmal_kishore » Wed Oct 27, 2010 2:24 pm

Hi There
I am in a similar situation - quite early though so just mulling over the idea.

If I do get paid in the UK (say to my Ltd company) how will taxes work? I mean considering UAE is tax-free?

Thanks

If you get paid in the UK for your work, then you are subject to UK income tax laws - irrespective of where you physically undertake the work.
