to convert student visa to hsmp visa

Post by Elan » Fri Jun 15, 2007 9:50 pm

Hi,

Can anyone give me an advice how to convert my present student visa to HSMP visa. I have another 3 months to complete my course and have student visa for next 8 months.

My main query is, how will I be considered in income category when I am working only for 20 hours [40 hours off term].

It is highly unlikely that doing student Job in the UK will qualify for HSMP earning criteria. But, you could use the earning that you get right before you start ypur course in the UK

To mY knowledge Student cannot qualify for HSMP unless they do Phd in UK

If they do Phd in Uk and if they are below age of 28, they will directly qualify for HSMP

for all other full time students , its difficult because they cannot claim for earning. (I dont know whether part time job earning will really help them or not)

Without earning and without UK phd its highly difficult

Student VISA holders do qualify for switching to HSMP VISA provided thay have a degree (in hand) from a UK university.

In your case, you will be clainming points for the salary that you earned during any of the 12 consecutive months out of the 15 month period just prior to starting the fulltime degree course (HSMP allows that and I have got HSMP clearance on this basis only). You will need to present a letter from your university showing that you have been a full time student to XXX course since.

Now as far as switching from Student VISA to HSMP is concerned, you can not do till the time you have been awarded a degree. You may however, go back to your country and apply for an EC.
