Converting From Fiance Visa to Spouse Visa from within UK

Post by wonder » Mon Mar 23, 2009 12:38 pm

I have searched the forums, but can't find any obvious answer - would expect this to have been covered 100's of times through.

My Finace is currenly in the UK, on a Fiance visa (I am a British citizen) - and we plan on getting married in the UK at the end of April.

My questions are:

What do we have to do to apply for the spouse visa - just supply the same information + marriage certificate that we already have supplied?

Which form? VA4F or whatever it was?

We want to apply in person in Croydon to cut the waiting times so that we can go on honeymoon - so that's the £515 fee? Or is it more nowadays?

The marriage in the UK is going to be simple, as we are planning on the big celebrations being in South Africa at the end of 2010 (to give people more time to save) - will this cause any problems?

Any help and advice would be appreciated. Sorry if this has been posted before.

Thanks

You'll need to apply on form FLR(M), which will give you a further 2 year visa. The fee to apply in person is currently £550, but check whether this will increase with other visa fees after 6th April.
You can download the form from the Border and Immigration Agency website www.bia.homeoffice.gov.uk
The guide notes will tell you what documents are required.
Depending at which PEO you intend to apply, last week most were fully booked until May.

Thanks. Yes, have just spoken to Croydon, they are currently taking bookings for 1 May, which suits us fine as we're only getting married in April.

Haven't yet looked at the form, sure I'll be back with more questions.

Also, is there a minimum time that my fiance needs to have been in the country before applying

(by the time of our appointment for applying for spouse visa, he would have been on his cleared entry for only 6 weeks on his fiance visa).

Thanks in advance for any help!

It doesn't matter how early into the fiance visa the application is made, as long as it isn't after the expiry date.
Remember they can't legally work until the FLR visa has been granted.

Perfect, thanks!

Yes, that's why we want to get it as soon as we qualify (i.e. are married)!
