Converting from Spouse Visa to Tier 2

I am currently in the UK, just coming to the end of a 2 year residence permit which was granted after my marriage.

I now wish to separate from my partner, and gain employment in the UK. I have an employer ready to give me a sponsorship certificate, and i meet all the PBS criteria with no problems.

It appears that i cannot convert from this current visa to the Tier 2 within the UK, and need to return to my own country.

I would like some advice please:

1. Can you confirm that I do need to return to my country.
2. If so, when? Can I apply over the internet before i leave here?
3. Any ideas on timescales for the application?

yes you have to go home to switch. u can search for visa processing times on the ukvisas website
