Is CoS and RLMT required for hiring TIER 2 Dependants ?

Post by shilpi.pu » Sun Mar 01, 2015 10:53 pm

Hi
I moved to Cambridge, UK with my husband on TIER 2 dependent Visa in Nov, 2014.
I have a Masters in Biochemistry with more than a year of laboratory experience.
I have been searching for jobs both in companies and in university laboratories in vain for the last four months now.

I have not been invited for interviews even when I the positions that I have applied to have their qualification and experience requirements that are clearly much lower than mine.

After a recent rejection, I bugged the recruitment agency for the reasons for my rejection and they replied that as a policy they do not hire people with TIER 2 visa status (even dependants) as they have to apply for a CoS and do an RLMT ?

My question is that is it even required by a company to seek a CoS and do a RLMT for hiring TIER 2 dependent because as per the UKVI the tier 2 dependent visa holders are eligible to seek any employment except for a doctor or dentist in training.

Tier 2 dependents can work freely without any restrictions. Most of the recruitment agents don't understand this point. One way to increase your chances of getting an interview and there by an offer is to mention that you don't need any visa and are free to work unrestricted in UK. When the recruiter calls you make sure you confidently state this fact that you are free from any visa restrictions and that you can join immediately without notice period. Most of them will then process your resume to next round. Best of luck.

P.S: You don't need CoS or RLMT unless you are switching from T2 dependent to T2 General.

@cstylishsam
Thanks a lot for your reply!
I have also felt that most of the recruiters are not aware of this fact.

While not revealing the visa details might help, the problem is that most of them ask for your Visa information in the Job application in itself, with questions like "Do you have an indefinite permission to work in UK"
In such scenarios it becomes extremely difficult to even obtain an interview as they filter you out from the process at the very start itself.
