Hi, I think i may have place this topic in the wrong category so I have pasted it here too.
==================================================
Hi and thanks for reading my topic.
I am a little concerned about my nephew who moved to the UK in 1976 when he was 6 years old. He is portuguese and has lived in the UK for 35 years. He has flown out of the UK and back in with no problems at all.
He has been married for 14 years with 2 children aged 13 and 18. He has discovered that he could be an illegal imigrant without deliberately doing it. His mother moved over first with a work permit. She worked here for 3 years and then sent a one way ticket to bring him over and that was that.
He has attended school from the first year that he moved into the UK and all no problems or questions. He got his NI number when he finnished his education, has a full UK car licence, works, rents, married, has children, pays bills, debts and anything else you can think of that british people have on a day to day basis.
He now wanting to apply for a british passport and was told that he needs to apply for nutriliisation. When checking out the website he read that he must have proof of permission to be in the UK. He had asked his mother for this and was told that no documents were available because she couldnt speak english and didnt know the regulations. She got him a one way ticket to the UK and he walked through, no questions, no inspections nothing.
Now he is stressed because his life has been built in the UK, he has a full time job, with a wife, kids and all. But, he has nothing to say that he has a work permit, indefinate leave, UK resident, nothing.
What can he do, where can he go from here and what will happen to him as he want to go on holiday but also change jobs but employers are now requesting proof of eligibility to work/live in the UK.
Any help or advice will be appreciated.
