current rules of student visa

Post by nishad.zaman » Sun Oct 30, 2011 3:59 am

Hi, one of my friend who wants to apply right now in a highly trusted college named South London College. course duration 2.5 year extended to level 6. As UKBA rules that only students are in University and Publicly Funded FE colleges shall have right to work followed 20 and 10 hours in a week. So my question is that will my friend get work permit as 10 hours in a week according to the new rules ? Please anyone let me know. Looking forward to your valued answer. Thank you.

work permit = Tier 2 General for all new applications

requirement of tier 2 general is that you must be working at least 30 hrs a week among many other requirements

Thank for your reply. That is not what I wanted to know. I wanted to know that as the ukba rules an international student studying in a public funded FE colleges can work part time 10 hours during term time and full time during vacation, and who is studying in a university can work 20 hours in a week during term time and full time during vacation. So my friend is going to apply in a highly trusted college as I have mentioned the name, so will he be entitled to work 10 hours in a week during term time and full time during vacation ? Please have a look again. Looking forward to your valued question. Thank you.

Basic work permission on student visa is nothing to do with 'Highly Trusted' or 'A Rated' status..those status are UKBA official Tier-4 Sponsor ratings. 'Highly Trusted' sponsor can offer work placement courses which is another story with its specific terms.

According to new rules, Tier-4 students in 'UK Govt. Further Education (FE) College will get 10 hours work permission and in UK Govt. recognized University will get 20 hours work permission.

according to their website they are a private international college - which would imply that they are therefore not a publicly funded FE college and thus given that they are also not an HEI your friend would not be given permission to work if issued a tier 4 visa to study at this college.
