Daughter lives in America - am I able to get residency?

Post by Taz2008 » Thu Sep 11, 2008 7:41 pm

My brother has a 6 year old daughter who was taken to America by her mother when she was just 6 months old. The mother re-married (to an American) and they have both been living in Utah for the last 5 years and now have residency there.

My brother is a UK born resident wanting to find a way if he can stay in America to be nearer to her. Can anyone let me know if there are any possiblities of this being possible for him?

Thanks for any help. :?:

Your brother's daughter can petition for him when she turns 21. See also here

Thank you for your comments. He was already aware that she would be able to sponser him at the age of 21, however, that is 15 years away and he really wanted to get out there now, so he could be involved in her growing up.

He travels out once a month to spend time with her, but it costs so much money. He works every hour possible so he is able to spend three days a month with her!

He is very friendly with the ex-wife and her husband and they would be happy for him to be part of her life on a more permanant basis, but it is just finding a way for him to go permanately! It appears to be very difficult to get into the states these days!
