Debt write off schemes and immigration status

Post by CStone » Sun Dec 10, 2023 3:11 am

Hi,
Ahh don’t know if my last post came through but here goes .
I just wandered what the implications my be on a future ILR application would be if for example I qualify for it now not made application yet. If I then sign up for a debt relief via the debt relief scheme which is government approved, any penalties or implications that might arise out of it when application is made for ILR AND THERE AFTER CITIZENSHIP ?

For naturalisation debts as such aren’t an issue as long as you comply with agreements and payment obligations you have entered. If you are a serial defaulter or bankrupt that may have serious impact regarding the Good Character requirement.

Not familiar with ILR aspects on this.

Note that government approved schemes (IVA?) may not be a good idea, there seems to be issues with high charges which are added to the debt. Suggest you get independent debt advice.
