UK Dependent Baby Born and Still Overseas - Online Form Problem

Post by Zeppi01 » Sat Jan 05, 2019 4:28 am

Dear All,

Could you please advise.

Wife is on EC about to apply for FLR. Our newborn child was born abroad and too young / currently and does not have documentation to fly to UK. I am British born (and my parents), so child is British.

I understand that the child is dependent on us (we both have to leave him under care of family abroad whilst we do FLR application) and should be detailed in FLR online application form as a Non Applying Child. There are 3 FLR online form questions relating to my query under the Non Applying Children Section:

Was XXXXX born in the UK? No

When did your child first enter the UK? Cannot leave blank! Child not in UK yet!

How long has your child lived in the UK? I can answer this with explanation of circumstances (which will also be covered in cover letter as explanation of birth abroad will be required to account for absence from UK)

The problem is, the second question does not allow me to leave date blank, or put a date into the future. A date is required, before I can progress the application. I assume I do need to detail child in this part of the application form (and as mentioned, I do need to explain about birth anyway in cover letter).

What should I do? Put a fictitious date and cover with explanation? OR omit child details from this part of the online application.

Am I overthinking this?

Any guidance would be very appreciated.

Kind Regards,

Zeppi

I think you may be using the wrong form. Your child is British. You should apply for a passport! A British citizen cannot be given leave to remain (and definitely not further leave to remain as the child has never entered the UK).

Thank you for your reply physicsskate. Sorry my original post was not clear.

I am applying for a FLR(M) for my wife. I understand that the child is British and will just need a UK passport. However, my child's details need to be mentioned on my wife's FLR application under the "Not Applying Children" section. This is where I have the problem.

Kind Regards,

Zeppi

As my (British) child is not in UK, when I came to answer this question which I could not leave blank or put a future date:

When did your child first enter the UK?

I tried to leave blank, the online form said in red text "Enter Date of Birth". So I did and put an explanation later.
