Divorce Pending-Want Visit Visa for New Wife

Post by regido » Mon Nov 29, 2010 8:21 pm

Hi, I live in Nigeria and I'm currently undergoing a divorce. I have since married another wife under Nigerian local law and custom and I would like for us to visit the UK next Easter. I understand that I need to wait for my divorce to be absolute before I can marry my new wife in a court of law, however I just want to get her a visa so we can visit the UK together for a holiday. I am a British Citizen living and working in Nigeria. I have family in the UK so accommodation doesn't present a problem and I still pay my NI contributions.

What type of visa would she need to apply for and what problems will we likely encounter, if any?

Thanks.

Unless you can prove that you have lived with your new partner in a relationship akin to marriage for at least 2 years, you can not apply for a Family Visit Visa, it will have to be a general visit visa.

If you're living and working in Nigeria, the important thing for her will be to show that you and she are in a genuine relationship and that you have not done a deal to take her to UK to leave her there.
