DLR - Will create a problem for my boyfriend?

Hi there, I was wondering if anyone could help. My boyfriend just applied for extension fir his DLR. he was 18 when he applied and has been in the country since he was 14. He stayed on the basis that his parent abandoned him here with his uncle when things got tough for the family in ghana, however last year he got in touch with his dad who said he was coming to the uk and has applied for a visa at the same time my boyfriend applied for his extension. Although my bf is now 22. Would this affect his application? can the home office use this against him even though he didn't disclose the reunion with his father? he has no life in ghana, please help and advice if you can
