1) Letter from my employer
2) Pay slips
3) bank statements

The basic comment must be ... look at the form SET(O) and in particular Section 7 ... all the requirements are listed there.

Exactly what is required will vary from person to person. For example, have you been required to register with the Police? If so evidence that you have done so. But if not required to register with the Police, and many nationalities are not, then that will not apply to you will it.

Only thing obviously missing from your list is two passport-size pics, but they get attached to your form SET(O) anyway. Also, have you needed to renew your passport since you arrived 3 years 11 months ago? If so also include your previous passport.

Got ILR

Post by man1976 » Thu Oct 27, 2005 12:58 pm

Thanks for everyone who helped me

I got my ILR. It took me 4 hours all together.

Was quite surprised only document the officer check was my company letter. She didnt bother to check my salary slip or bank statement.

The main thing she checked in the form was absence from UK. After that she checked my company letter and went for a photocopy and then she said come back after 2 hours to collect your passport

Thank you everyone again

Congratulations, glad it all worked out.

Next stage? Apply for naturalisation in a year's time?

It will turn out to be three years, as now explained.

As for you, not married to a British Citizen, your qualifying period is five years and you need to have had ILR for at least one year when you apply for Naturalisation.

As soon as your Naturalisation is granted ... surprise, surprise .... your wife is married to a British Citizen! Accordingly (assuming of course you have already got your Naturalisation) your wife can apply for hers just three years after she first arrived in the UK. So another 2.5 years to go for her.
