Does EUfam residence card holder need a visa for italy?

Post by irish resident » Wed May 21, 2008 10:23 pm

Planning to travel to Italy,

I am holding an Irish EUfam residence permit and will be travelling with my wife who is an EU national. Do I need a visa to go to Italy?
Any help is appreciated.

Well from the links following on the websites of the italian consulates in the UK, if holding a residence permit as a family member of an EU/EEA national, no visa required if travelling with the EU national or joining them. I assume this would apply to any family member residence permit issued by the EU countries not part of schengen (UK, Ireland, Cyprus, Bulgaria and Romania).

I was told different in London (but I'm Italian). I've emailed them and I'm waiting for an answer...

I've been to the consulate today.
Confirmed no-visa needed if you are holding such permit.

You can pop-in and get a piece of paper that says that you don't need the visa (this is for the check-in people if they stop you).

Same story for Germany but no paper.

French & Dutch told me that they are about to change to the same thing but this will take a few more months.

Are you working in the UK?

What exactly did you ask and what was the exact answer?

Yes I'm working. I've been to the consulate yesterday and this seems to have been sorted.

Re: Does Stamp 4 card holder need a visa for italy?

Post by irish resident » Thu May 29, 2008 10:35 pm

:x I can't believe it! My new card arrived and its is only printed "Stamp 4" on it. No mention of "EUfam" ... after renewing the card for the 8. (!!!)time. On phoning the clerk, she said "oh, that must be a mistake, but I can't do anything about that now until the next renewel!"

Do my travel rights - together with my wife - remain the same within the EU or are there different types of STAMP 4 residence permits?

Urgent advise, please!

Immediately contact the EU's Solvit for assistance. If 4EUFam is the one you should have, that is the one you should get. http://eumovement.wordpress.com/help-eu-solvit/

Why have you had seven 4EUFam cards? Have you been resident in Ireland as the family member of an EU citizen for 35 years?
