Does Home Office carries out checks on character references

Post by yumedo » Fri Dec 13, 2013 10:42 am

I have applied for ILR via the 20 years route .In my application , there are ten character references which are provided by my local church and friends whom I have known for many years, seven of them are happy to include a copy of their passport to support their references .
Here are the questions,
1) Does the Home Office carries out check on character references .
2) What methods/ questions they may apply to?
I want my friends to be informed and be prepared for.
Many thanks in advance

Why have you posted under ILR? Do you know that the 20 years stay in the UK only entitles you to FLR which is a 10 year route to settlement? Which form did you apply on?

Perhaps you are right.
The HO's confirmation letter says:
"application for leave to remain in the UK,"which is submitted with the form FLR(O),it's also knows as long residence route.

They will usually not check up with the people who have written support letters for you. But in rare cases they may write to them, and ask them to confirm they have written letters supporting your application.

Just curious, why did you not apply under the 14 years rule?

Thanks for your reply

there is an admi removal order against me ,but this Clock stopping nonsense has been overturn by a court ruling recently.
I submited application on 01/ Nov, 10 days later , HO issued a request for biometric register and I complied.
two weeks ago, HO asked me to provide residence evidences for 1997-1999. I got two confirmation letters , one from my GP, another from Hospital.
Is The progress in a good pace?

You applied in November and they have already asked for further information. This is very good progress. Just promptly provide them whenever they ask for anything. It will be wise to just sit back and wait for decision.

Good Luck.

Thanks Ayyubi72 for your decent advice,,

Do you think two letters from two scources confirming the dates I attended GP and hospital appointments during that period, alonside with copies of medica records stamped by GP and hospital could satisfy the HO?

Cheers

Yes they will. Make sure you keep copies of every single document you send. Always send by recorded delivery and keep the receipts safe.

Thanks , I have some original documents from HO and My soliciter for that period. But my current soliciter says the HO would not accept them as proof of residence.rather strange to me
Luckily GP and Hospital still keep the whole medical records.

Send your GP and hospital letters. Also with them you can send other documents as back up such as letters received from HO or your solicitor. Even letters from car insurance, home shopping bills, catalogue shopping bills, credit card, bank statement, phone bills, nectard card or other such card statements. Bascially anything you can get hold of.

That is exactly what I have asked my solicitor to do, but he insisted on only sending out GP and hospital letters and holding back the HO and solicitor letters. he also got rather upsetted when I insisted on sending all of them.
As my application currently is off to a good start.I will let it run its course and not wish to create any drama such as changing a solicitor.
given to its current pace,I reckon I may get an decision two or three months down the line?
