Does spouse have to work for citizenship?

I see that some citizenship applicants on here have been asked for payslips and bank details during the naturalization process.

I (EU citizen) and my spouse (non-EU) arrived in Ireland in July and have gone through all of the steps and she now has Stamp 4 in her passport. I earn enough money to support both of us well, so my wife doesn't work.

So in order to qualify for naturalization after 5 years, does she have to be active in the workforce for those 5 years? Or is this just a way of proving that she was present in Ireland for those 5 years and we coul easily provide some other documentation?

As far as I know there is no requirement that the person has to be working in ireland for the 5 year period so long the person has had a legally valid visa for the duration. However any time spent as a full-time student (i.e. on a student visa) will not be taken into account.
