Ok, I know this subject has been done to death in the past, but I can't seem to get a straightforward AND current answer.
I'm about to be naturalised as a British citizen by virtue of marriage to a British citizen.
I'm a Malaysian national by birth and hold a current Malaysian passport with an ILR stamp.
I understand that Britain recognises dual nationality but Malaysia doesn't.
Questions:
1. At what point would I lose my Malaysian nationality?
It would appear from past answers (and certainly by implication in the Malaysian constitution, although I can't be sure that the one I've found via the magic that is Google is current) that it is not automatically revoked upon naturalisation, and that an order actually has to be issued by the Malaysian government for revocation to take place.
However, others seem to think that it is automatically revoked and to continue to represent yourself as a Malaysian national constitutes fraud.
Which is it?
2. Does it matter that I have obtained British citizenship by virtue of marriage?
Article 24 of the Malaysian constitution (although see 1 above) provides that citizenship may be revoked if a person obtains citizenship of another country other than by marriage, but the constitution doesn't seem to provide for what happens if you obtain citizenship of another country by marriage.
Advice gratefully received!
Thanks
