Dummy Applications

Post by Trin1121 » Mon Feb 10, 2025 5:54 pm

A good while ago, I was advised that people frequently proceed through a 'dummy' application on the gov.uk website to gain first-hand knowledge of any requirements it has/questions it will ask.

I was just wondering if anybody had done this recently and - if so - if you had any problems getting it done or not.

My husband (US citizen) and I (UK citizen) are looking to apply for his visa to move to the UK with me in about a year's time......and I will be looking at walking through the steps online some time soon. Was just wondering what to expect. We wouldn't get in trouble for doing a dummy application would we?

No you wouldn't. It is just a dummy app. It gets deleted after about 10 weeks if you haven't logged in to continue.

Hey CR001 - than you so much for your reply from a while back. I somehow forgot to enable notifications on this post so I didn't see your reply until sifting through the forums today!

That's really good to know - thank you!! So when doing a dummy application - it's actually a whole process that you "log in" to? THAT is also good to know! We are going to have some time off this week and plan on maybe doing this. So we wouldn't be jeopardizing anything by doing a dummy run right now, which is about 3-5months prior to when we will be wanting to do it for real?

Until you actually submit/pay for an application nothing happens, nothing will be reviewed or pre-screened.
It's just work in progress and if not updated after a few weeks it will be deleted. It makes sense to have this facility for complex applications, certainly for immigration. I believe you can also start a new application from scratch.
This is just my opinion as a member of this forum and does not constitute immigration advice.

Thank you very much alterhase!! I appreciate your response!

One additional question I meant to ask here was regarding the 'cash savings' amounts. We will not be going into jobs in the UK and will be relying on 100% cash savings to justify our application. With that in mind - at least part of our 'cash savings' is not in GBP. Does anyone know how currency conversions factor into this when making your application? Do they use the currency rates on the date of your application? How is all that figured out?

Thanks!

They'll use the currency rate on whatever day they decide to look at your application.

They use this to check.
No sin in failing, you just have to try and try again!
