dutch first time passports for minors

Post by fromtheshine » Mon Nov 10, 2014 5:34 pm

Hi, does anyone know the answer to this query.
I was born and raised in South Africa and have always held South African citizenship. Last year (2013) I was able to successfully apply for a Dutch passport because my Grandfather was Dutch and he never naturalised when he came to live in South Africa many many years ago. So my question is, now that I have a Dutch passport, are my 3 minor children (all under 16 years old) able to apply for and get one too? Of course they are presently South African citizens. From what I've researched they would definitely be eligible if I already had my Dutch passport when they were born BUT that is not the case. I only got it after they were born. Anyone in the know PLEASE advise me? Kind thanks

Hi there,
As far as I am aware your children are not eligible for passports. They can, however, apply for residence permits in the Netherlands and naturalise. That might cause them to lose their SA passports.
Could you tell me how you received a Dutch passport through your grandfather? I am also South African with a Dutch grandfather.
