I have a few questions.
I am from Africa.
My wife and our 2 children are EEA nationals from one of the A8 countries.
I've got my 6-months EEAFP and now, we are in the UK since December 2007.
-I have started working full time immediately after my arrival in the UK.
-I have applied for a permit using the EEA2 form.
-My wife has applied using the EEA1 form as self-sufficient, dependent on my income. She's not working right now as she needs to take care of our children.
Note that we have not claimed any benefit, not even any tax-credit for supporting our children education.
We live solely on my income, and I pay/contribute for my NI.
Yesterday, I got a letter.... a letter from the Home Office asking for a
"Comprehensive Sickness Insurance Cover in the United Kingdom for you both and your children"
Note that my wife and our children are EU nationals, so they still have their insurance card from their country of origin.
I already have a UK NI number. Tax deductions go to my NI.
The whole family is registered with the NHS.
Unfortunately, I was not aware of the Sickness Insurance requirement
The requirement in the EEA1 form is:
As you can see, in the EEA1 and EEA2 forms, nothing is mentioned about the Sickness Insurance.Economically self-sufficient
Evidence of funds sufficient to maintain yourself and any family members included in this application during the time you
intend to reside on this basis. These funds can come from the employment or self-employment of any of your family members
residing in the UK with you. Documentary evidence of their employment or funds should be supplied.
From my understanding, as I'm paying taxes through a full-time employment, I should automatically be covered by the NHS, including my children ... and ... also my wife.
And the HomeOffice should not be asking me for any insurance.
But apparently, I was wrong.... and now, I'm in big troubles because the deadline for providing the documents is very close.
-Do you think I must have a private sickness insurance even though I'm already paying/contributing for my NI?
-Please, could you be kind enough to advice me?
Thank you very much.
