Does this service cost money? I filled out application online and it says around £75? I have settled status EEA national.

The application itself it's free, it's the biometrics appointment that might cost some money (I've seen between £75 and £200).

Free appointments are rare but possible with some perseverance and patience. I was able to secure a free appointment at London Pimlico (Passport Office) while browsing the site on a Saturday at 9:00 AM. Other times might work for other locations. See this earlier post.

And just to double check, this is for your wife, the non-EEA national, not for yourself, right? As a EEA national, you don't need a EUSS card.

You will be told of the mandatory documents once you finish the application and be issued a checklist. Mine were:

BRC
Proof of Address
Consent form - to consent to HO doing checks

Is there a way to retrieve the checklist if you don't remember where you put it? This was my problem. I vaguely remember seeing a checklist when I booked the appointment, but did not save it, thinking it would be straightforward to come back to it when the time came.

Big surprise, the site does not offer you an easy way to retrieve the checklist or the consent form (not that I could find anyway). I also tried looking in my emails, but nothing, I just found the QR code appointment confirmation attached as PDF; but no checklist, nor consent form (luckily I had saved the consent form immediately and had a copy; otherwise I would have struggled to find that as well).

I had to go with gut feeling and upload what I thought were reasonable documents for the mandatory category I was prompted to in the website, which simply read "UK residence" (BRCs, driving licence, council tax, joint bank statement, consent form).

Moral of the story: Do not assume Sopra Steria or the UKVAS site are UX-friendly at all. Save all documents you are given immediately, you might not be able to come back to them afterwards.

I am wondering if someone could help me in the following matter. I am on the verge of applying for a replacement of a Biometric Residence Card. I want to upgrade/replace BRC issued under the EEA regulations with a BRC issued under the EU Settlement Scheme.
I have been informed that those who have already been issued a Biometric Residence Card (BRC) are not required to capture their fingerprints again. In this regard, they will receive an email from UKVC. Is it true? Does someone have that experience or knowledge of this? Please inform.

Not true.

For any new biometric card it is necessary to provide fresh biometric data, and this goes for any type of application. I have been in the UK for over 10 years, have renewed several visas and residence card several times, including Tier 4, Tier 2, EEA and Settled Status, and have provided fresh biometrics, every.single.time.

You might be confused by the fact that if applying to the EU Settlement Scheme via the app using a valid BRC, then the process does not trigger an invitation to provide fresh biometrics. This is because it is assumed that the applicant does not need a new biometric card as they can keep using their current, valid BRC (However, EEA cards are valid only until June 30th 2021, so this assumption is flawed. Not sure why the Home Office is still operating in this way.)

If the applicant does want to replace their EEA BRC by a EUSS one, then they need to apply for the card as a separate process after obtaining the EU Settled/Pre-Settled Status itself. And while doing so, they need to book an appointment, and provide fresh biometrics, just as anyone else.

That’s strange with your @Kamoe My final page still had link for my checklist, how to book appointment, download of my application, consent form link. All there when I log in here https://visas-immigration.service.gov.uk/nextSteps

I also got a link in an email after I applied with the Christ included in the email too.

Ohhh I see.

There are two sites:

The UK visa service (https://visas-immigration.service.gov.uk/ plus a long id personalised for each applicant),
The UKVCAS for the appointment and documents (https://www.ukvcas.co.uk/).

Veeery tricky to remember and find both as they went to different folders!!!

Thanks, I see this now, and I see the checklist on the first site. It turns out, the only mandatory document for me was proof of address (in the UKVCAS site the only mandatory category was indicated as "Residence in the UK", no further breakdown. Really misleading). So luckily I have covered the requirement with driver's licence, council tax and bank statement.

Anyway, it's done now. So silly, this was really confusing.

Second moral of the story: watch out for emails with links to both of the two sites above. They are both relevant!

Thank you so much @Bazinga_

Yes, that’s right even though I added all three and just put N/A (Not applicable) and dated it. The SS advisor I met accepted that.

Updating my timeline for replacing BRC issued under the EEA regulations to a BRC issued under the EU Settlement SchemeScheme:

09.02.2021: Submit online application via GOV UK
05.03.2021: Appointment with SopraSteria UKVCAS for Biometrics Collection
12.04.2021: Email confirmation from APAD HO - that BRC replacement card will be delivered within 7 working days
21.04.2021: Recevied BRC ILR EUSS (7 working days after received email confirmation from APAD - London Area - Delivered by TNT)

In case you need to chase your delivery and if it was sent by TNT whilst you don't have consignment number provided by APAD - use this contact number 0800600100 (I was able to speak to a very helpful lady with my details provided and asked if they have received the document from HO and they could confirm it)

I would like to wish everyone the very best of luck and hope that all of the processes go smooth. Please don't hesitate to nudge me if I can be of any help!!! My next journey will be the naturalisation - see you in the naturalisation forum!

Hello to all.

I was wondering if any of you here applied for the exchange of the BRC issued under EEA to BRC issued under the EUSS card in December and still waiting?
I am still waiting for my card and have tried to contact APAD several times and get the same answer each time that they are prioritising application with early expiration dates. I know people here with late expiry date on their old card as me have received BRC a lot sooner..
could someone please advise how can I request my BRC to be processed and issued..

My BRC expires in 2024. I will be eligible to apply for British Citizenship in June this year. I also applied to exchange my BRC to EUSS card, and will submit biometrics in a couple of weeks. Does it make to proceed with application if waiting time to update BRC is 6 months now? I applied mainly so I can travel in July-August, however seeing how long it takes for HO to update cards, not sure it's worth it.

Also if I submit by biometrics now and don't receive new card by end of June, can I apply for citizenship with the existing BRC? Or will I have to wait to receive new card?

Biometrics sent on 29th Dec
I emailed APAD on 11th March
Received an email about BRC being issued today, 22 April.
BRC (under EEA) valid until 30.06.2021

Waiting for the card.
Good luck!

Hi everyone, does anyone know if we could travel back to our home counties while waiting for the new brc to arrive?
I am from Turkey. I have given my biometrics on the 12th of March. I didn't receive an apad email. I sent them an email last week. No response .
Can it take more than 3 months or more for the new card to arrive?
My EEU BRC card will expire on the 25th of May. My pre settled status is till 2024.
Can we still travel back with an expired brc ? I have my pre settlement status online which gives me a code to prove my status.

If anyone have an opinion. Please share.
Thanks

Hi everyone,
l just received an email from apad that my card is on the way! But they want me to send back the old brc.
Does anyone received the same email and should we bother to send the old one back? Could we just cut it in half? There is no return address on the email as well so l am a bit confused..

Thanks
