It was very quick, I got the residence card within 3 weeks. But it was weird, I received the COA after the residence card.

I did not receive any communication from the Home Office for 3 weeks after my payment was taken. The help line advised I should send an email after waiting 6 weeks to eurobiometrics@homeoffice.gsi.gov.uk. I went ahead and sent it anyway (at the 3 week) and thats what prompted a confirmation email and biometrics letter.

(We lived in Greece for 10+ years, our child was born there);

It took them 9 weeks to decide and to finally issue the card. I'm writing this to give others hope. My advice is to enclose a short cover letter and a pre-paid envelope - this might speed up the process (I didn't bother though).
